Some Lessons from Leading Large Scale Change
Leading change, managing boundaries: theory, practice and some lessons from large scale interventions
28 July 2009, Bournemouth, Dorset
Kevin Dixon identifies key lessons from large-scale change experience:
- Focus on the benefits whilst keeping an eye on what is happening beneath the surface
- Use evidence, and make boundaries explicit, use stories and case studies that make-sense and are relevant to the moment and can be communicated with ease
- Use knowledge, and experience from different levels and across the organisation, bringing different groups to the front at different stages in the process: leave no stone unturned to get to the root of the problem
- There will be conflict and interventions will need to be tailored with a deep understanding of the issues, with the desire to learn even more
- We needed to test our perception and make sense by working through issues, to gain an understanding of individual, team and organisation boundaries and difference
- Work with resistances through experiential activities that gain active participation
- focus energies and the use of resources
- Celebrate achievements!
